It is important to know how Google views your site, because if Google has the wrong impression, you will get traffic with high bounce rates. High bounce rates equate to low search engine relevance. You need to know that relevant terms are being found so you can locate any ‘offending phrases’ and eliminate them from your pages. (more)

The Importance of About and Contact Us Pages

I am always amazed when I find a site that is lacking an About page or a Contact page. I am not so naïve as to believe that if the information is present that it is fact, but it’s a lot more suspicious if it’s missing.

Mod Rewrite Rules for Uniform Spidering

I mention in my earlier post that you should choose to use www or not, but regardless, stick with it. Another issue that arises is that you can’t always control how someone else will link to your site. While most will include www. others wil not. To insure that all you links are cataloged in the search engines uniformly, you should implement a couple of rules in your .htaccess file.  (more)

To www or not to www, that is in the URL …

I have said that incoming links are very important. That is, you want to have the most incoming links to your pages possible, from the most relevant sites possible.  But should you link as www.huntsville-bike-parts.com or just use huntsville-bike-parts.com? 

Many of us are predisposed to including the www at this point, even though most of the time the www is irrelevant (with www and with out www will usually take you to the same place). Others see the www as extraneous and leave it off  and many times you see the www omitted on billboards, trucks and ads. The answer is … (more)

URLs and Linking for SEO

I mention on my SEO page that having a descriptive URL is a good thing. In the example I say that www.huntsville-bike-parts.com is better than having www.bobsbikes.com. Why?? — You know that incoming links (sites linking to yours) are very important, perhaps equally important is the phrase that links the URL. When you have a descriptive URL, this link and phrase association are one and the same.
